Despite her {{Watcher}}'s disapproval, BuffySummers tries out for the SunnydaleHS cheerleading squad, in an attempt to get her life back to the way it was before she was {{called}} into duty as a VampireSlayer. However, the competition starts being removed due to questionable circumstances, and Giles suspects it's the work of a {{witch}}. When suspicions lead to AmyMadison, Buffy gets sticken by a vengeance spell which saps her strength. A visit to Amy's mom reveals that CatherineMadison isn't just pushing her daughter to live the dreams of Catherine's own youth.

Stuff We Learned

  • When Giles tells Buffy to do something. She will probably not do it, and then will usually suffer for it in some way.
  • In the BuffyVerse it is established that it's possible for one person's mind and soul to be magically placed into another's body. This becomes an issue again in IOnlyHaveEyesForYou and ThisYearsGirl?.
  • AmyMadison's mom ends up trapped in a cheerleading statuette in the SunnydaleHS trophy case, which makes another appearance in BtvsSeasonThree episode finale GraduationDayPartTwo?. Oz also mentions it in {{Phases}} but it's unknown what becomes of CatherineMadison's incarcerated ghost.

Air Quotes With Fingers

  • Willow: "Yeah! You're the Slayer, and we're, like, the Slayerettes!"
  • Giles: "But that's the thrill of living on the Hellmouth! There's a veritable cornucopia of, of fiends and devils and, and ghouls to engage... Pardon me for finding the glass half full."
  • Xander: "I laugh in the face of danger. Then I hide until it goes away."
