Screenwriter Joss Whedon is the writer, director and producer of the TV series 'BuffyTheVampireSlayer', based on his BuffyTheVampireSlayerTheMovie 1992 film of the same name?.

Both Whedon's father and grandfather wrote for television. His grandfather wrote for various sitcoms in the 50s and 60s, like 'Leave it to Beaver', 'The Dick Van Dyke Show' and 'The Donna Reed Show'. His father wrote for shows such as 'Benson' and 'The Golden Girls'.

Joss grew up in New York, and spent his high school years at an all-boy's school (Winchester) in England. After studying at WesleyanUniversity (Connecticut), he was hired as a writer for the sitcom '{{Roseanne}}' and later worked on 'Parenthood'. He is the writer and creator of the comic series '{{Fray}}'.

Joss sold his first script for the film BuffyTheVampireSlayerTheMovie which was then made into a film in 1992 starring KristySwanson? as 'BuffySummers' and DonaldSutherland as Buffy's first watcher '{{Merrick}}'. Since then he has worked on scripts for 'ToyStory?' (1995), 'AlienResurrection?', 'XMen?' and (uncredited) '{{Speed}}'.

In 1997, he started the TV version of BuffyTheVampireSlayer, which eventually launched a spin off series, 'AngelTheSeries', in 1999. In 2002, Whedon produced a new Science Fiction series called '{{FireFly}}', a western in space, which did not feature any aliens. UniversalStudios? has recently given FireFlyTheMovie, titled {{Serenity}}, a green light and the project will begin production in June 2004. It is expected for release in 2005 and will be written and directed by Joss.

There has also been talk of another Buffy spin off for the BBC, called '{{Ripper}}'. This will star AnthonyStewartHead, who plays the character RupertGiles in {{BtVS}}.

Joss is also ExecutiveProducer? for 'BuffyTheAnimatedSeries?,' although this series has never gone into production.

Joss has appeared as {{Numfar}} on AngelTheSeries, and his voice can be heard in the ChaosBleeds video game, as the voiceover for the arena-style play options.
