Whilst out on routine night-time patrol, an encounter with a {{Vampire}} results in BuffySummers Buffy? being stabbed. Luckily, RileyFinn Riley? turns up and sees the Vampire off before he manages to finish the job. Clearly shocked by the near fatal experience, Riley and the BuffyCharactersScoobyGang Scooby Gang? relieve the {{Slayer}} of her patrolling duties.
A concerned Buffy is desperate to know why she slipped up and decides to learn more about her predecessors and the circumstances following their last battles. Unfortunately for Buffy, there's really only one person who can help her - {{Spike}}. For a beer and a few bucks (not to mention a plate of chicken wings!), the Vampire spills the beans on how he managed to kill not one, but two Slayers in his time.
Spike seems to take a great deal of delight in bragging about his infamous achievements. He tells Buffy that all Slayers have one thing in common - a death wish. And that sooner or later she'll follow in their footsteps too...
Air Quotes With Fingers
Spike (to Buffy): "Death is your art. You make it with your hands day after day. That final gasp, that look of peace. And part of you is desperate to know: What's it like? Where does it lead you? And now you see, that's the secret. Not the punch you didn't throw or the kicks you didn't land. She really wanted it. Every Slayer has a death wish. Even you."
