The "Scooby Gang" is the nickname for BuffySummers Buffy?'s close circle of friends who help her battle both the forces of evil and the alienation that comes with being the {{Slayer}}. The makeup of the Scooby Gang evolved over the years as friends and lovers moved in and out of Buffy's life. There is a complex chicken pecking order among the Scoobies, with seniority, usefulness and principal favoritism being key factors in where each supporting member of the {{Slayerette}}s fit. It fluctuated from season to season and sometimes from episode to episode.

  • The term {{Scooby}} was first used in the Buffy {{canon}} in the BtvsSeasonTwo episode WhatsMyLinePartOne by XanderHarris when talking to CordeliaChase, "Come on, Cordelia. You wanna be a member of the Scooby Gang you gotta be willing to be inconvenienced every now and then."
  • In the BtvsSeasonFive episode TheRealMe?, TaraMaclay referred to herself and DawnSummers as outsiders or "non-scoobies" compared to the others, and suggested staying out of their way.
  • All {{VampireSlayer}}s are honorary members of the Scooby gang. Except when they go bad, at which point their membership is temporarily revoked.
  • Is it "Scooby" or "Scoobie" ? Obviously the original line was in reference to the Saturday Morning cartoon series ScoobyDoo?. In the shooting scripts and transcripts, both spellings are used.

I grepped the scripts I have and found 25 uses of Scooby and 6 of Scoobie (not including scoobies) so I'd recommend sticking with the former. (not signed)
Both spellings are acceptable. The amount of times used is not as relevant as the fact both spellings have been used. One is not more or less acceptable than the other. (ZachsMind 9/13/3@10:19pm)
