It's BuffySummers Buffy?'s 19th birthday and poor old RupertGiles Giles? is feeling a bit left out. He feels that he's been kept in the dark about Buffy's new boyfriend, RileyFinn, and TheInitiative?. And the reappearance of one-time old friend turned-nemesis EthanRayne? does nothing to raise his spirits. In fact, things get decidedly worse.
While MaggieWalsh Professor Walsh? talks to Buffy about joining the Initiative, Giles, WillowRosenberg Willow? and XanderHarris Xander? have a much more pressing problem to deal with: the rise of the DemonPrinceBarvain?. Whilst staking out his crypt, Giles is shocked to bump into Ethan, who negotiates his way out of a beating by warning Giles of an impending danger.
During a heavy drinking session, Ethan tells Giles that all the demons are running scared of something called "314". The next morning, Giles wakes up with much more than a hangover - he's been turned into a hideous FyarlDemon?, complete with huge horns and enormous strength. Ethan, it seems, has been up to his old tricks again.
After trashing his house in a panic, Giles is forced to turn to an unlikely source for help - {{Spike}} - whilst being hunted by Buffy and the Initiative...

Riley: "Buffy. When I saw you stop the world from, you know, ending, I just assumed that was a big week for you. Turns out I suddenly find myself needing to know the plural of 'apocalypse'."
